Build Reuse has several active workgroups and committees that steer the work of the organization forward.

Each is chaired by a Build Reuse board member. Members of Build Reuse may join and participate in any workgroup or committee.

Deconstruction Training Standards Workgroup

Chair: Kinley Deller

This workgroup is developing national best practices and standardized training curricula to advance the building materials reuse industry.

With support from Rethos and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, this workgroup is actively revising our textbook for deconstruction training and our National Registry of Deconstruction Trainers through 2026.

Policy Committee

Co-chairs: Lauren Zimmerman Onstad and Emily Freeman

This committee focuses on deconstruction and reuse policies in the United States and how to make best practices more accessible to more communities.

This committee was previously the Data & Policy Committee. Read Build Reuse’s Statement of Research Needs here.

Conference Committee

Chair: Olivia Cashman

This committee leads the planning for and execution of our annual Deconstruction + Reuse Conference. Working closely with a local organization based in the conference host city, this committee oversees logistics, registration, promotion, programming, sponsorships, and related efforts for the conference.

EPD Project Workgroup

Co-chairs: Jon Smieja and Aaron Gould

This workgroup helps advance our Environmental Project Declarations (EPDs) for Build Materials Reuse Project. The workgroup advises and assists Build Reuse staff.

Membership & Programming Committee

Chair: Melissa Wenzel

This committee focuses on events and related programming for Build Reuse members throughout the year, including quarterly member meetings and Build Reuse Affinity Groups (BRAGs).

Fund Development Committee

This committee is the fundraising arm of Build Reuse. It focuses on pursuing strategic partnership opportunities, identifying grant opportunities, and related efforts that help scale the scope and impact of Build Reuse in service to its members and its mission.

Communications Committee

Chair: Stephanie Phillips

This committee focuses on Build Reuse’s external presence and communications, including our website, newsletter, social media channels, and more. It supports all other workgroups and committees in promoting their work.
